The sun's finally out, and if your usual flat white suddenly feels like a bit much, you're not alone. Warmer days call for something cooler — and a properly good iced coffee is one of summer's simplest pleasures. The best part? You don't need a barista or a fancy machine to make one. Just good beans and a few spare minutes.
Start with the right beans
Iced coffee lives and dies by what goes in the cup. Because it's served cold — and usually knocked back with ice or milk diluting it — you want a coffee with enough body and natural sweetness to hold its own. Our Breakfast blend is a brilliant all-rounder over ice: chocolatey, smooth and never too sharp. If you like things a little fruitier, one of our single origins works beautifully cold too.
Three easy ways to make it at home
1. Cold brew (smooth & low-acid)
The gentlest, sweetest option. Use a coarse grind, roughly 1 part coffee to 8 parts cold water, and leave it to steep in the fridge for 12–18 hours. Strain, then dilute to taste. It keeps for a few days in a jug, so you can make a batch on Sunday and coast through the week.
2. Iced filter / flash brew (bright & quick)
Short on time? Brew your coffee hot, straight over a jug of ice. Use your normal filter method but pop the ice in the receiving jug — it chills the coffee instantly and locks in all those fresh, lively flavours.
3. Iced latte (the crowd-pleaser)
Brew a strong, concentrated coffee, pour it over a glass of ice, and top with cold milk (dairy or plant, your call). A splash of vanilla or caramel syrup if you're feeling fancy.
A few barista tips
- Brew it stronger than usual. Ice melts and waters things down, so start bolder than you think you need.
- Use cold, filtered water for cold brew — it really does make a difference.
- Freeze leftover coffee into ice cubes. They keep your drink cold without watering it down as they melt.
However you take it, summer just tastes better with a proper cup in hand. Grab a bag of Breakfast beans — or let a subscription keep you topped up all season — and give cold brew a go this weekend. Your future, hotter self will thank you.
