Well, the news is out… we’re the 2024 winners of Channel 4’s Double The Money!
What a wild, wonderful experience it’s been for both of us. Now, it’s time to sit down, brew ourselves a mug of Need Coffee, and unpack everything that’s just happened.
Did that even just happen? We’re still pinching ourselves.
Double The Money 2024 Winners
If you’ve just watched the final episode of 2024’s Double The Money, you’ll have seen us (Jack and Natalie) win the show - woohoo!
Before talking a bit about our experience, we want to give a big shout-out to all of the wonderful contestants we met along the way and the amazing, witty, and absolutely lovely Sue Perkins, who really is just as much of a gem in person as she is on all of our TV screens.
In the final, you’ll have seen us creating Need, the coffee brand that ended up earning us the winning title. The entire journey - from securing our roaster and working on branding to doing our first-ever Need pitch for a large grocery group - was documented on the show. It was pretty nerve-wracking at times, but, we loved the whole journey! Getting to create this amazing brand together was the icing on a very delicious cake.
Filming Double The Money
We first heard about Double The Money through a friend who works in casting, and it didn’t take much discussion before we decided to go for it. Our relationship is rooted in a kindred entrepreneurial spirit (we met on a marketing project at Uni - it was meant to be!) and this just felt like exactly the right path for us to take.
After applying and getting through, we started filming in the summer of 2023. Over 3 months we went through 6 super fun rounds, creating successful businesses and doubling our money (or more!) every time. From our campsite cafe to the festival at The Berwick Inn, each round gave us the chance to work together as a teeny-tiny team and bring some pretty cool businesses to life.
But it wasn’t until the last round that everything really came together. Even as we were filming, we could tell that something had clicked. Need felt like a culmination of our entire Double The Money journey and it’s a business we knew we wouldn’t be leaving behind.
Introducing Need: Quality Coffee for Busy People
Need was inspired by our time on the show and everything leading up to it. We’ve always been busy people and have served, met over, and drunk a whole lot of coffee!
Our lives do feel like a whirlwind quite a lot of the time and sitting down to sip a freshly brewed mug of coffee in those little moments of peace is a ritual that’s become important to both of us. It’s a chance to breathe, reflect - and then crack on with the rest of the day!
That’s why Need felt so right to us; because it’s more than a business idea, it’s an extension of our lives. We created a premium coffee that tastes wonderful, can be brewed however you like, and provides the perfect moment of rest in a life that’s full of motion.
In 4 weeks, we bought Need to life on Double The Money. Now it’s time to share our deliciously blended, easy-to-brew coffee with the world.
